AWANA is formed from the letters from 2 Timothy 2:15:

“Study to show yourself Approved unto God. Workmen who Are Not

Ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Awana is a youth program of First Baptist Church for the spiritual, mental, social
and physical training of children.  Our focus is upon Jesus Christ, true God and Savior.
Start time is 7:00 pm and ending time is 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening.

The evening is broken down into three basic segments:  Handbook time (Bible memorization), Council Time (Worship and Message), and Game Time. Children are divided by age and work at their own pace.

Cubbies    (Ages 4 and 5 Pre-school)

It is a structured program where children learn early that being a Christian and learning verses can be fun.  They learn simple verses with the help of Mom and Dad at home, sing songs, play games, learn to function in a group environment, and hear Bible stories.  Their vest is blue with animal patches for rewards.

Sparks     (Kindergarten through second grade)

It includes a fun firefly character named “Sparky”, and three hand books provide Bible memorization and activities.  Sparks wear a red vest and get a crown for each book they do.  The awards are jewels which fit into the crown.

T&T      (Grades 3-4)

T&T is for Truth and Training.  One handbook per year provides a variety of Bible memorization and other Bible-centered achievements.  Handbook time is divided out by grade and gender, so children can really work at their own pace, but we encourage two sections per night to finish the book.

B.O.L.D. (Grades 5-6)

The B.O.L.D. class is unique to Kearney FBC. This class features age-specific material that allows the kids to begin to think about more difficult issues in relationships and life. It strives to be a fun place for kids to learn about what the Bible has to say to kids as they get closer to their teenage years.
